Stumbling Horse Apologies
Pop Occulture Blog has an essay on Jim Boucher’s Santeria reading at: http://www.timboucher.com/
We’ve simplified the legwork required to play these as they are meant to be heard — as code — in the following beginner’s guide to the sc140 album. If you’d rather hear it quickly, stream the songs in your web browser instead. We found listening to the code more interesting because many of the songs include generative code and sound different every time.
Psychometry is a psychic ability in which a person can sense or “read” the history of an object by touching it. Such a person can receive impressions from an object by holding it in his/her hands or, perhaps, touching it to the forehead. Such impressions can be perceived as images, sounds, smells, tastes - even emotions.
The past is entombed in the present, the world is its own enduring monument; and that which is true of its physical is likewise true of its mental career.
Token-object reading, also known as psychometry (from Greek: ψυχή, psukhē, “spirit, soul”; + μέτρον, metron, “measure”) is a form of extra-sensory perception in which a psychic apparently has the ability to obtain information about an individual through paranormal means by making physical contact with an object that belongs to that individual. As of 2009[update] the phrase “token-object reading” has superseded the term “psychometry” so as to avoid potential confusion with the branch of psychology called “psychometrics”.
Psychometrics is the field of study concerned with the theory and technique of educational and psychological measurement, which includes the measurement of knowledge, abilities, attitudes, and personality traits.
The Greek ancestor of theater is theātron, “a place for seeing, especially for dramatic representation, theater.” Theātron is derived from the verb theāsthai, “to gaze at, contemplate, view as spectators, especially in the theater,” from theā, “a viewing.” The Greek ancestor of theory is theōriā, which meant among other things “the sending of theōroi (state ambassadors sent to consult oracles or attend games),” “the act of being a spectator at the theater or games,” “viewing,” “contemplation by the mind,” and “theory or speculation.” The source of theōriā is theōros, “an envoy sent to consult an oracle, spectator,” a compound of theā, “viewing,” and -oros, “seeing.” It is thus fitting to elaborate theories about culture while seeing a play in a theater.
A pattern, from the French patron, is a type of theme of recurring events or objects, sometimes referred to as elements of a set. These elements repeat in a predictable manner. It can be a template or model which can be used to generate things or parts of a thing, especially if the things that are created have enough in common for the underlying pattern to be inferred, in which case the things are said to exhibit the unique pattern.
Australian’s indigenous peoples conceive of all things beginning with the Dreaming or (in some Indigenous languages) Altjeringa (also called the Dreamtime), a ‘once upon a time’ time out of time where archetypal ancestral totemic spirit-beings formed the World. These shapeshifting spirits embodied forms of animals, plants, people, natural phenomena and/or inanimate objects and their existence is revealed by their formative journeying and the signs they deposited through the landscape. Their dreaming and journeying trails are the songlines (or “Yiri” in the Walpiri language).
